Chimney repair and masonry construction in Michigan usually get incredibly slow in the month of January. While you would think temperature would be the main reason for this, over the last 12 years I have come to feel that it is not. I have worked in some incredibly cold Decembers building chimneys, tuckpointing, and doing all manner of masonry repairs and masonry construction. Yet, I always managed to work in excess of a 40 hour week every December. But when January hits the masonry trade, without fail, always slows. As much as I would like to pretend that March is a busy month, and always seem to fantasize about spring breaking in early March and warm weather coming it never seems to happen. While I am by no means starving, and always seem to work from January through March, they are always by far my slowest months. This January, for example, we have had some very warm days and a nice January thaw roll through. In fact yesterday it was 40 degrees. But it was not until today, when the temperatures dropped back into the teens, that I was able to begin my next chimney repair project. It was a long, miserable, cold day but I am greatful to have the work. If you would like more information about masonry repairs please visit www.michiganchimneyrepair.com.
